Principal’s Message

Dear Parents/Caregivers

It was great to see you all at school this week sharing with the teachers information about your child or children.  The information gathered is very useful for us to get a full picture of all the children in our care.  You, as the parent, know your child better than anyone so we feel the ‘You Tell Us’ is a great way to get to important information.

Sadly, Jackie is leaving us this coming Wednesday and I wanted to thank Jackie, on behalf of the school, for all that she has done.  She has always gone ‘Above and Beyond’ and we are all going to miss her commitment, passion and absolute desire to do the very best for our children and school community.  Jackie has had a long connection with the school in terms of being a mum, an Educational Assistant and for the last 8 years the PTA Administrator.  We are very sad to see her go and wish her all the very best in her new endeavours.

If you are a bus user, you will receive an email today outlining the changes as of this coming Wednesday.  Ildi and Jennifer (PTA Chair/Vice Chair) have written an email which walks you through what you need to do, as a bus user, if you want to make a change.

We will no longer be accepting calls or texts to make changes and you will now be required to email a specific email address, by 12pm, if you want to make a change.  Your email will go to the Bus Company who have kindly made one of their team available to support us during this transition.  A PTA member will work closely with the company to ensure requests are responded to in a timely manner.  You will appreciate that whilst we look for a replacement for Jackie, we had to come up with an approach, to the buses,  that was manageable for everyone involved.

Finally, to our Hindu community, I do hope the Janmashtami festivities went well on the 3rd of September.  Celebrated by over 930 million people I understand this is as significant, to Hinduism, as Chinese New Year or New Years Day is to other cultures.

Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Warm Regards
Bill Garnett

Message from the Peak School PTA

Dear Parents,

As you all know Jackie To Lai, our PTA administrator, is leaving us and we are now confirming that her last day is next Wednesday, September 12th.  The PTA and Peak School Community will miss her greatly, as she has been an integral and cherished part of the Peak School family for many years now.

We are now in the midst of the difficult process of finding a suitable replacement.  Unfortunately there will be a (hopefully short) period of time when we do not have anyone in the position full time.

The members of the Executive Committee, with the support of Peak School Staff, will cover her role until we are able to fill the position.

In order to make this transition as smooth as possible, we hope you understand we have to make some changes in how we respond to certain situations.

UPDATED RULES FOR USING THE PTA’S BUS SERVICES

I’m sure you would all agree the most critical area is the handling of the bus services.  This includes following up and organizing the ad-hoc daily changes, such as:

  •      Changes of buses due to after school activity
  •      Playdates
  •      One off journey for non-regular bus user

The PTA’s policy has always been that changes need to be sent 24 hours in advance via EMAIL, and always subject to receiving a confirmation email back from the PTA office. Jackie very kindly made a lot of exceptions in the past year or so, but that 100% flexibility with last minute changes over phone, text, Whatsapp is not able to continue so the only way you will be able to make changes, moving forward, is via the email address below.

We have considered many options in looking for the best solution, and we would like to implement the following system, effective from next Wednesday (12 September):

Any requests for changes in a bus users’ regular routine (from REGULAR bus users), or requesting a one-off seat on a bus (by NON-bus users) must be sent to the email address listed below:

pta.bus@peakschool.edu.hk

The deadline for submitting any changes is 12.00pm on the day for afternoon drop off changes, for the next morning (pick up) changes.

This email will go directly to an employee of the bus company who will monitor and implement the changes.  A member of the PTA will also have access to the email to assist and monitor the changes.

Please NOTE the following:

  • This address can only be used to indicate any changes in the regular bus routine. For ANY other inquiries please use our other email address (pta@peakschool.edu.hk).
  • Upon receiving your email, we will confirm changes – latest 2.00pm on the day of submission.
  • Any changes will only be accepted and guaranteed by email confirmation.

It is fine to send a note on your bus WhatsApp group for the bus mother if your child wakes up sick that morning and will not be getting on the bus.  In that instance, we would request that you also send an email to the above email address to alert us to the fact your child will not be on the bus in the afternoon.

We will have someone from PTA to follow the existing WhatsApp groups, but please note: that chat group is only created to notify parents in case of significant changes in time of arrival due to traffic, weather or other instances.  We will not be able to respond to any other requests on the WhatsApp groups.

This year Peak School has a much higher number of bus users compared to other years.  Please note that the requests to switch buses for playdates is much more difficult to grant, as there are very few empty seats, and some buses may not have any, or only have 1 empty seat on a given day.

Please Note, the bus services are managed by the PTA, in case of any concerns please contact us. We will be happy to help you with any matter.

NEW OPENING HOURS OF UNIFORM SHOP

The PTA Uniform Shop will be opened on MONDAY, WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY on regular school days;

08.35am – 10.00 am
and
14.00pm – 15.00 pm

Please note: you may drop off or send in your uniform order any time, and we will give out or send home the items on days when the shop is open.

Finally, if anyone is interested in the PTA Administration role or knows of someone who you think would be suitable, do please let us know.

We realize this transition period in inconvenient and we will do everything in our power to make it as seamless as possible.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Kindest Regards
Ildiko Fecser and Jennifer Andrews
PTA Chair             PTA Vice Chair

Student Health and Dental Scheme

A reminder you can retrieve a form for the Student Health Service from school now, closing date 14th of September.

For the Dental Scheme: Please obtain a form directly from MacLehose Dental Centre at 286, Queen’s Road East, Wan Chai from mid-December. Please call 28922125 for details.  You will need a proof of attendance letter from the school with the HKID card (original and photocopy)/passport with a valid visa (original and photocopy) for an appointment.

Mosquito Protection

Please ensure children are fully protected with mosquito repellant before coming to school. As we know mosquitoes love the hot humid weather we are having at the moment. The school is taking environmentally friendly precautions to try stop the increase of mosquito’s in the area, with this and repellant we feel it will aid the prevention of mosquito borne illness.

Best regards,
Michelle Buckley & Gloria Cheung
School Nurse
