Principal’s Message

Dear Parents

It has been a very busy past two weeks with our Year 4, 5 and 6 camps.  I am on the Year 5 camp as I type this (in between taking photos of my group doing the zip line).  It is always a pleasure taking our children on camp as they are so well behaved and make the most of the opportunities presented to them.

The Year 6 children in particular were exceptional this year with one Outward Bound instructor quoted as saying ‘they have restored my faith in humanity’. Which is high praise indeed.

Whilst on camp the staff take photos, when possible, and post these to our respective parents so they can get a sense of what their child or children are doing.  The parents, of the children who went on camp, also have access to 100’s of photos taken that were not uploaded whilst on camp. These are available in the following weeks of the camps.

Here are the links so you can take a look at each of the camps.  You can see first hand just how lucky our children are.  My thanks to all the staff who have organised and supported the camps these past two weeks.  It is certainly worth it to see the children enjoy themselves so much.

  • Click HERE to see the Year 4 camp photos (Cheung Chau)
  • Click HERE to see the Year 5 camp photos (Sai Kung Scout Camp)
  • Click HERE to see the Year 6 camp photos (Outward Bound)

Finally, just a reminder that if you have not booked your 3 way conference time, can you please log onto Gateway and do so.  This is a great opportunity to discuss with your child and your teacher around the targets your child has set moving forward.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Kind regards,
Bill Garnett
Principal

Reading Presentation for Parents Y2-Y6

This presentation will take place on Thursday 17 November 2016 at 8.45 – 10.00. It will provide an overview of the process of learning to read, decoding and comprehension strategies, how we assess reading at Peak School and some practical strategies to help you support your child at home. This is geared towards Y2-6 parents and will be most useful for new parents who have joined within the past year and for those parents who have not attended the workshop before (as the content will be similar to last year.)

Please complete the form by clicking HERE if you would like to attend.

I look forward to seeing you on Nov 17.

Box of Hope

sc_boxofhope

Many thanks to all the families who created a Box of Hope to support the Student Council’s action.  As always the Peak School community have been extremely generous, there were some lavishly decorated boxes and I am sure they will be the cause of many smiles for other children in the coming months.

Diwali

The Student Council, together with members of Peak School community created a vibrant and engaging display for Diwali recently.  Each day students and adults in the school would contribute artefacts to help celebrate the Festival of Lights.  At the school assembly Prisha Adhikari and other students gave a presentation about the meaning of Diwali and many students joined in the lunch time activity to create mehindi art.

Remembrance Day: November 11

sc_rememberanceday01

sc_rememberanceday02 Another special day the Student Council like to acknowledge is Remembrance Day, also known as Memorial Day, Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day.  This is a time when we acknowledge all those killed and affected by war. On November 11th is the date when most countries recall the end of hostilities of World War I in 1918. Sadly due to camp commitments we were unable to have a lunch time activity about this.  There are displays up in the library and shared area and Student Council students will work in their classes with class teachers to acknowledge this day.

In recent years the Student Council have helped Peak School students acknowledge many special days and festivals including Hanukkah and Thanks Giving.  If your child would like to share an important festival or occasion we would be happy to help them.

Lost and Found

lostfound

Over the weeks, we have gathered many lunch boxes and spray water bottles in our Lost and Found box. The ones with names clearly labelled have been returned to the rightful owner, however the remaining items in our Lost and Found box are those which have no names on them – and there are many.

Please make sure all the children’s belongings are clearly labelled, especially as we approach cooler days, we often do find many windbreakers, sweat shirts and fleeces ending up in the Lost and Found section in the office.
